Halloween In India?
halloween in india?
Halloween is a special time of the year to remember the dead. It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain; that such festivals may have had pagan roots; and that Samhain itself was Christianized as Halloween by the early Church.
Halloween activities include trick-or-treating , attending Halloween
costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple
bobbing, divination games, playing pranks , visiting haunted attractions, telling scary
stories, as well as watching horror films. church
services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular, although
elsewhere it is a more commercial and secular celebration.
yet we children or teens, ourselves feel attracted to the more scary part of Halloween. And I know we have been so eager to celebrate Halloween ever since we were exposed to the American culture. A very few of us Indians have started to celebrate Halloween by throwing parties ,dressing up and even few schools in India have set up carnivals dedicated for this ocassions.
As I teen myself, the only Indian festival I love is Holi but much to my dismay Holi isn't celebrated in south Indian.
The only thing I am asking is why can't India have just one day dedicated to Halloween ?
We don't really need a holiday on that special day, we can have regular classes yet dress up scary instead of boring everyday uniform. I would give anything to wake up on 31st October morning , dress up scary for the day and walk into my class filled with spine chilling decorations and spooky classmates.
